What is the Investor Visa for Italy?

The Italian government introduced the Investment Visa Program in 2017. The Investor Visa Program is part of the Italian Government’s overall efforts to stimulate Italy’s economy and attract foreign investment.

How do I qualify for the Investor Visa?

There are currently three methods to obtain an investor visa:

1.    Italian Government Bonds.

a.    Purchase €2 million in Italian government bonds; and

b.    Hold investment for a period of at least 2-years

2.    Private Equity Investment.

a.    Invest €1 million in an existing Italian company; or

b.    Invest € 500,000 in an “innovative” Italian-based start-up.

3.    Public Interest Donation.

a.    Donation of €1 million for philanthropic projects that are of “public interest”.

What is the process to obtain an Italian Investor Visa?

The Ministry of Economic Development handles all Italian Investor Visa applications. Upon approval, the applicant will be granted a 2-year visa, which consists of the Italian residence permit (“permesso di soggiorno per investitori”).

What are the investment requirements for the Italian Investor Visa? When do I need to invest the money?

Capital investments must be made within three months from the applicants date of entry to Italy.

Does the Italian Investor visa lead to permanent residency or Citizenship?

It may. The Investor Visa is renewable indefinitely for additional 3-year durations. After holding an Investor visa in Italy for 5-years, you are is eligible to consider an application for permanent residence in Italy.

You may be eligible to apply for citizenship after a period of 10-years.

What about my family members?

Family members (i.e. dependents) are also able to obtain residence in Italy.
